r/CatAdvice • 2 yr. ago baby_fang Stories about your cat finally cuddling plz. New to Cats/Just Adopted ... First: I know that some cats simply don't like to cuddle. I am okay if that ends up being the case for my cutie! But with that said - I'm looking to learn about some people's experiences with adopting a cat from the shelter that eventually ended up enjoying cuddles over time. What was the process like? Timeline? Etc. I'm fostering this cutie while she recovers from an emergency C-section.

She can't be adopted until she gets spayed in a few weeks which I liked cause I have commitment issues lol. It has only been a bit over a week and I'm already in love with her and would like to adopt her (and potentially name her Grey Fang). She was a bit stressed at the shelter but welcomed gentle head scratches as she laid in her cubby. Once she came to my place and started to explore (after breaking out of her enclosed area lol), she has really warmed up and continues to build confidence! She

notrosemurray • 2y ago We had our cat since he was a kitten and he always liked pets and attention but just did not do lap sits. Sometimes NEXT to us, but no interest in sitting or laying on us or sleeping in the bed. Not a huge deal, but not the dream. He also has always had horrifically stinky poop, like multiple vet techs saying it was the worst they'd ever smelled. We tried limited diets and probiotics on vet advice to no avail. When he was 4-years-old we tried the Kittybiome "poop pills" ou

eye82much ⚫2y ago I got an ex-street cat from the shelter around the start of the pandemic and when I first adopted her, you'd think she was a furry shark with how much she would just bloody CHOMP you when you tried to go for a pat. I went through a year of lockdowns with this little ball of rage who hovered over her food bowl glaring at me and would endure one chin scritch before CHOMP, and spent the rest of her time tearing around my apartment and yelling at my wardrobe. As an aside, she is ve

phthaloviolet • 2y ago My shelter cat I got a month ago is incredibly needy, follows us from room to room, meows when she can't see us, stuff like that. She's been slow to cuddle though! She'll sit next to us on the couch and slowly over an hour inch her way closer to us until she's sleeping against a human leg or arm. I once fell asleep and woke up to her on top of me, but other than that she never goes on us. I think like everyone says it just takes time! I put a blanket on the couch for her w

jaydawg49 • 2y ago I started feeding a stray cat which I named Clementine and he was afraid of me so I left food and watched from afar at first. Then about a month in I was able to feed him canned food in our front yard then another kitty which we now named, Chestnut started coming around but staying back and eating his leftovers. It took about 4 months to get to quickly stroke Clementine when I caught him off guard. Then finally like 8 months later I was able to pet pet him but Chestnut never l

Gandalf122896.2y ago I've had all of my cats from kittens over the past 20 years. In that time, one would have you cuddle him all day, another for a little bit, 2 others absolutely pull away if you pick them up to hug or cuddle... . So let's say our of 5 cats over 20+ years it's roughly 50%. So you just never know. They have distinct personalities, all raised in the same way and environment. I like to think that it's a combination of nature and nurture. 2233 Reply ↑ Share baby_fang OP 2y ago Yea

Loustalet5 2y ago My second oldest girl was originally my grandma's, she passed 8 months ago. This cat is very very slow to adapt to change and hopped on the bed for morning cuddles for the first time yesterday. In the first month I could hardly pet her without her getting angry or scared. Now she lets me pet her untill she's had enough. She "talks" to me while I pet her every day, sometimes she says "Momma", it's so darn cute. Only in the last month she has been comfortable enough to explore th

confusiondiffusion • 2y ago One of our adopted cats took a whole month to come out of hiding and he is now the most snuggly cat ever. He needs to be held all the time. He's still very skittish at times, but I think I've seen improvements in him for over a year now. I recently noticed I can step over him without him panicking. That's new. He follows me around the house now. It's been a really slow progression. Our other adopted cat wanted out of the bathroom we locked him in the first day we got

liquiidlucky ⚫ 2y ago our cat is about two, and my partner got her when she was about 1. she had been stray before that. she was just warming up to my partner when he had to move her, and the new apartment had another cat. they were not unfriendly, but she notably didnt want pets or anything, probably because she was tired of dealing with the other cat. the other cat moved out in may, and my partner and i moved across the country to live together while i get my second degree in august. our cat g

kidpunk ⚫2y ago I started feeding a stray who was very skittish. She wouldnt come in the house and only did so after a few weeks but ran straight back out at first. She wouldnt let me pet her much and would always dodge and slink away when I tried. Eventually she was comfortable enough to eat her meals indoors but would leave straight after. She would wait for me outside though, and wanted me to hang out with her walking up n down the street but still didnt like being petted. We made a cat door

babyk1tty1 • 7mo ago This thread is old, but I adopted a feral unsocialized "problem" cat (the shelter's words) back in 2020 and he was TERRIFIED of people. It took me over a year of very carefully spending time with him, talking, having quiet time and working on getting closer until he started to relax and trust me. Now it's Aug 2023 and he is a VERY affectionate and loving boy. I can pick him up, kiss him, tickle him, even trim his nails and he fully trusts me. He even comes out for guests and

susangjc • 2y ago We had a cat that would only cuddle when she was sitting on a shelf in the bathroom. Don't know what the magic of that shelf was, but she loved it and loved cuddles there while elsewhere she was indifferent 4233 Reply ↑ Share baby_fang OP • 2y ago Lol oh cats!
